New Operating System

Most people are familiar with Windows, but the reality today is that there are new being developed every day that are really competing with Windows. While Windows is still the giant in the world of operating systems, new versions of Windows as well as other products like Linux and GNU have helped make the world of operating system a diverse and changing product all the time.

If your system came pre-loaded with Windows, as most new computers are, you may be happy with that as your primary operating system. However, you can change to a new operating system if you like as the options that are out there are vast and diverse.

If you want a new operating system, the switching process is actually not as difficult as it might seem. The first thing you will want to do is to review your options. Do you want to try out the new version of Windows called Vista? Have you thought that maybe that operating system rebel, Linux, might be for you? Do your research and find what will work best for you.

Once you get your new operating system, there are some things you need to do before you put the CD in the CD-ROM drive and start installing. The first thing you need to do is make a back-up of your current system. This is easily done by downloading a free program from the Internet like Norton Ghost or any other back-up program that will help you keep your existing system in the event that you are not happy with your new operating system.

After you have backed-up your current system, THEN you can put that CD in or launch the downloaded program and start installing your new operating system. Be prepared to sit by your computer for some time as you will often be prompted to enter information as the program is installing. Switching over isn’t always an easy process, but it sure is easy to do.

When the new operating system is installed, you need to take some time to play around with it. Try to execute tasks you normally do and see if the system performs the way you need it to. Remember that when you update to a new operating system, the old programs you had on the computer won’t be there anymore. You may need to re-install things like favorite games, word processing programs, and such in order to do your work.

Upgrading to a new operating system is something that people do every day. It could be the best thing you ever do in your computing needs, but go into it with an open mind and remember that “change is good”.
